Animal Farm Plot Summary
“Animal Farm” is the story of a unique rebellion: animal versus man, which in the end results in the tale being right back where it began. Old Major, the oldest and largest pig, starts off the book by giving an inspiring speech, encouraging the animals to rebel against their owner, Mr. Jones. After the animals revolt, and send the Jones’ running off the farm, life is good, until the leaders, two pigs named Snowball and Napoleon, begin to have some differences about the direction Animal Farm should be in. Napoleon then overthrows Snowball by using his troop of vicious dogs to force him away from the farm. Napoleon subsequently changes all of the rules and forces the animals to vigorously work on a windmill, which he furiously opposed when Snowball was attempting to put it into effect.
When things don’t go exactly how he planned, Napoleon starts to really bend the rules, which Snowball and he had firmly commanded the animals not to break. However, because most of the animals could not read the commandments when they were first written, they just believed the propagandist, Squealer and all of his lies of their fading memories and the wonderful, all-powerful Napoleon. After many years time, Napoleon literally turns into exactly what the animals were rebelling against in the first place, man.
